Beyond The Scar
Beyond The Scar is a high-energy modern metal act out of Baltimore, Maryland. Constructed in early 2006, BTS wasted no time gaining a name for themselves, with a combined 50-plus years' experience brought to the table. Local frontman Kory G set out to put together an all-star cast with a sound and image that would stand apart, and appear not-so-ordinary. Well-renowned and respected axeman Thane Farace quickly contacted Kory, looking to put together two powerhouses into one fold. Joined by Raye Morris on bass and Mike Shallcross on drums - Beyond The Scar took off and hit the ground running. Medical conditions forced Raye to step down in December of 2006, and Mike's busy schedule prevented him from committing to the full-throttle schedule, leaving him without a choice but to retire from BTS as well.
Rather than fold, Kory G and Thane pressed on and set out to find the area's best guys to fill the voids on bass and drums. Enter drummer Chris Pernia. Chris, known for his death metal speed and precision from his time with Pessimist and Psychtogen, brought just the style and charisma that BTS was looking for. Finally, bassist Jay Katzenberger was added to the fold. A co-worker of Thane's and world music performer, Jay quickly changed gears and filled the vacant slot to solidify the lineup. Beyond The Scar was once again solid and complete.
As they continued to grow, Beyond The Scar began to see great opportunities come their way. They were invited to be a part of the Spring 2007 Jagermeister Tour, featuring the debut of supergroup Hellyeah. BTS was the first band to perform with Hellyeah, as they debuted their live tour in Baltimore in May 2007. They even have a cameo in Hellyeah's DVD, "Below The Belt", and were given a complimentary review of their performance from Vinnie Paul himself on Blabbermouth.net.
In 2008, Beyond The Scar was offered what would become their greatest opportunity to reach interstate metal fans - a three-date slot on the 2008 Spring Jagermeister Music Tour featuring Hatebreed and Type O Negative. They packed their gear and opened the show in Providence, Rhode Island; Allentown, Pennsylvania; and finished up the tour in Baltimore in front of their hometown fans. Later that Summer, Beyond The Scar again returned to the big stage, as part of the 2008 Rockstar Mayhem Tour, where they took their show to the Jagermeister stage in Camden, New Jersey.
On June 28, 2008, Beyond The Scar released their debut CD, "Ruination" to an anxious crowd in Baltimore. The CD is described as "powerful, aggressive, yet with a groove that flows melodically". Recorded, mixed, and produced by renowned engineer Drew Mazurek (Nothingface, Hellyeah, Gwar), and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music, "Ruination" became everything BTS wanted it to be: big, bold, and solid.
BTS executes a one-two power punch of metal that sets themselves apart....taking chances is not only typical of Beyond The Scar, it's a requirement. Delivering a diverse mix of today's and yesterday's metal sounds, BTS takes pride in straying from the norm. Beyond The Scar is sponsored nationally by Jagermeister and www.jagermusic.com.
